I'm late...

I knew that could get your attention! I mean late to trends...for example, I'm sort of a walking fashion victim simply because by the time I figure out that there IS a trend, I'm behind it. If there is a hot new show to watch, (24), I catch it starting in season 3. In this particular case I refer to a literary craze, sweeping (AKA SWEPT) the nation. I have been advised on many occasions to read this...series about vampires and werewolves and I have avoided it because you know I'm just not into the Lord of The Rings stuff, heck, I can't even stand Star Wars...yet, this past week as I found myself the weeklong nannymom of 6 boys (that includes my 2 and ranged from 10 mos - 16), I somehow found the time to rip up 1000 pages of Edward and Isabella...that's right. I've done it. I'll finish the last book by weekend. I'm sorry for any wisecracks, finger pointing, or otherwise foolish mockery. I realize now you were only trying to better my world. Consider it done, just late!

Me too. It took me a year of hearing how great they were. I am not into science fiction at all. However, I read the entire series in just over a week. A lot of tv was happenin that week at our house.

It took my friend buying me the book before I'd read it. If too many people say it's great then I assume it's over-hyped and I'll be disappointed. But those were really fun books.

Not only are you late, but everyone else, including this author, is well over a decade late to the vampire novel shtick.

Can anyone tell me how these compare to Ann Rice's novels?

accept weird things. you usually learn something about yourself or the person pushing weirdness on you.

once I got the part where bella and Edward start arguing over who cares about who more, It lost me. too much real life.

I didn't read these but Tennille did(and she loved them). I asked her what the heck these were all about. She started to tell me and after about thirty seconds my eyes began to glaze over. What I got is that it is some kind of teeny bopper vampire/werewolf love triangle, the kind of thing that would only happens in high school, way to girly (that's with grrrrllly) for me. I just read 'Antietam - the Soldiers Battle' a story of the battle told through excerpts from diaries of those who survived the single bloodiest day in American history, pretty gruesome some of it. And now I am reading 'Grant Takes Command.' By the way anybody going to see 'IronMan' coming out on May 2 I believe...

Hello friend--loved your comment. You never know--TX just might be in our future at some point.

I read the first of the series for a book club. It was entertaining, but I wasn't hooked completely. Maybe I should try again. A friend of mine is obsessed hilariously and has taken her kids on excursions to see the movie sets (2-ish hours from here). Her 11-year-old son grumbles to hold the camcorder, but he does it!

I have heard so many good things about this fabulous series! You aren't too late, I haven't even heard the train whizz by. I'm sure I'll hop on board someday. I'm trying to trudge through my book. I'm so proud of you!!!! Please get me motivated.

As for 24, don't get discouraged. I have all the seasons. I'd be happy to send them up. (I dream about the show!)

Now that YOU have endorsed them, I may actually, maybe, we'll see, start this series. After all, I will be in the Pac N'West (aren't they set there?) Of course it's one more strike against WA...Vampires!
